INGREDIENTS

– 2 Tablespoons olive oil – 2 garlic cloves, minced – 1 (28-oz.) can crushed tomatoe – 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt – 1 teaspoon sugar – 1/8 teaspoon fresh black pepper – 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Place a medium saucepan on medium-low heat. After warming the olive oil for 1 minute, add the garlic and sauté for 2 minutes, stirring regularly, until golden brown and fragrant.

Stir in smashed tomatoes, salt, pepper, sugar, and optional crushed red pepper flakes. Simmer the sauce for 7 minutes, stirring regularly, then add salt, pepper, or sugar to taste

The crushed tomato kind you use will determine the strongest marinara sauce flavour. My favourite brand is San Marzano Crushed Tomatoes.
